Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in Fort Collins, Colorado

What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based therapy designed to help people process and integrate distressing memories and experiences that continue to affect daily life. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR works directly with the way traumatic memories are stored in the nervous system, helping the brain complete a processing cycle that may have been interrupted at the time of the original experience.

At Embodied Therapy Group, our EMDR providers are trained through the Trauma Recovery Humanitarian Assistance Program (TR:HAP), an EMDRIA-approved training program. Our somatic training shapes every phase of this work, bringing attention to the body's experience throughout each stage of the EMDR process.

EMDR may be a good fit for:

People living with PTSD, complex trauma, or developmental trauma.

Those experiencing anxiety, depression, or panic that feels rooted in past experiences.

People who have tried talk therapy and feel like something deeper remains unresolved.

Anyone curious about a body-based, structured approach to trauma processing.

Our Approach

EMDR can be offered as a standalone treatment or woven into a broader integrative approach depending on what each person needs. For some clients, a dedicated EMDR intensive makes sense. For others, EMDR emerges naturally within the relational and somatic work already underway.

Either way, we don't rush the process. EMDR has distinct phases, and the early work of building safety, resourcing, and stabilization is as important as the processing itself. We move at the pace of your nervous system, not a predetermined timeline.

EMDR is an eight-phase treatment model. In practice, this unfolds across three broad stages:

Our Process

Preparation:

We establish safety, build internal resources, and ensure your nervous system is ready for processing work. This stage can take several sessions and is never skipped.

Step 1

Processing:

Using bilateral stimulation, typically eye movements or tapping, we work through targeted memories and experiences. Sessions are paced carefully, with attention to what your body is telling us throughout.

Step 2

Integration:

We close each session with stabilization and track how processing continues between appointments. Integration is ongoing and woven through the entire treatment.

Step 3

EMDR is available in person in Fort Collins and virtually across Colorado.
